Partnerships against foxes in East Gippsland

Wildlife Unlimited has received funding from the Victorian Government through the Agriculture Victoria Partnerships Against Pests grant program. This project will bring together community and agency stakeholders to come up with innovative ways to tackle fox control in the remote areas of East Gippsland.

Our focus is on the wilderness around the Upper Snowy, north of Gelantipy and the nearby farmland—places that aren’t part of the highly successful and long running Southern Ark program, but where remote camera surveys show foxes are on the rise.

Taking action here will help protect the Spot-tailed Quoll and Brush-tailed Rock-wallaby from predation and stop foxes from invading farmland.

We are excited to empower community members to actively participate in documenting fox activity in the region using the FoxScan app and developing a community-endorsed Fox Control Strategy for East Gippsland Remote Communities.

Our project will result in key recommendations for innovative, cost-effective fox control strategies in currently untreated remote areas of East Gippsland. Additionally, we will explore financing options, such as philanthropy, to support these initiatives moving forward.

Ultimately, we expect this project to improve recovery outcomes for threatened species and enhance the security of farming livelihoods. Wildlife Unlimited will soon be hosting a webinar and a series of workshops as part of the project, so stay tuned!
